Director's Welcome
Sounds of a Bach concerto drift down the corridor, mingled with the harmonies of a Solomon Rossi vocal quartet. On a deck overlooking a lake and rolling farmland, a group of girls lean intensely over sketchpads, with pastels and pencils in hand, as they try to capture the evanescent hues of a twilight summer sky. Another group of campers energetically improvises a dialogue for a Torah-themed drama involving live actors and puppets. Meanwhile, in another space, dancers practice their twirls and pliés. Writers find the quiet and solitude they need to concentrate on poetry, short stories, and essays and a nurturing environment in which to share their creations.
These are the sounds and sights of Tizmoret Shoshana. Since the summer of 2000, the retreat has welcomed Jewish girls from throughout the United States, Canada, and Israel. Tizmoret Shoshana hosts girls who are as serious about Torah as they are about pursuing their interests in the arts. This summer, with its experienced and vibrant
faculty,
extensive facilities, and
intensive program, Tizmoret Shoshana will once again adorn the lovely hills of central Maryland with sights and sounds of uncommon beauty. We look forward to your participation.
